Betty Godwin Mackie Raleigh – A DIY Enthusiast who worked with the contractors

DIY stands for DO IT YOURSELF. Or you can say the activity of decorating or repairing your home, or making things for your home yourself, rather than paying someone else to do it for you. Betty Godwin Mackie Raleigh is an experienced renovator having many years of experience under her belt. While working with the contractors, she began performing duties like a General Contractor. Later, she re-purposed many existing materials that include stained glass windows, antique hinges, doorknobs, and much more.

Over the years, she has designed as well as overseen five home renovation projects. She successfully designed various layouts and acted as a General Contractor for brand new kitchens and worked along with owners and interior designers to choose fixtures, paint colours, hardware, chose cabinets, and counter-tops. In order to supervise the work and keep the budget as proposed, she often schedule meetings with the sub-contractors. One of her best qualities is that she always makes sure that the projects are completed within the client’s budget and period.

Betty Godwin Mackie Raleigh re-purposed several fixtures of kitchen, bath, and chose the decor for the houses wherever necessary in order to keep up with the coastal theme. While working on various projects, she also encountered many problems, such as:

· Discovering water leaks in one of the projects that required working closely with engineers.
· Dealing with an uncooperative contractor for repair work that was deemed substandard.
· Holding back payment until jobs were completed to code and customer satisfaction.
· Dealing with landscaping firms that cut down wrong trees and have them re-planted on their expenses
· Dealing with a national window firm that sized and ordered the incorrect size windows and they were forced to cover the expenses incurred.
In spite of facing such problems she never failed to give the best in her work.

Betty Godwin Mackie Raleigh has attended the North Carolina State University. She is a UNC Charlotte graduate in English literature. Afterwards, she had attended East Tennessee State University (ETSU), where she got a degree in Liberal Arts.

Besides this, Betty is a philanthropist and volunteers for literacy Council as office manager. She heartily supports March of Dimes; which is a well-reputed organization working to improve the health of babies and mothers with no-profit vision. Betty is also allied with Susan G. Komen, a Breast Cancer foundation.
